Arvada covers a lot of ground — Olde Town and the established streets off Ralston Road, then newer neighborhoods like Ralston Valley and Arvada Ridge out to the northwest. Those two halves of the city ask for different things from a landscape.

The city declared a drought and Stage 1 restrictions effective April 15, 2026, with watering days aligned to Denver Water's schedule and watering only before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Check the city's page for the current stage before you plan — it can change during a season.
Arvada partners with Resource Central on its water-saving programs for city water customers: Lawn Replacement, discounted Garden In A Box kits, and sprinkler system evaluations. Those programs have their own rules and timelines, so check with the city or Resource Central before you remove anything.

Mature trees in the older neighborhoods
In Olde Town and along the established corridors off Ralston Road, we regularly run into surface roots when we remove sod. Those trees have been living on lawn irrigation for decades. We plan excavation around the root zone, keep cuts clean, and put the tree on drip before the sprinklers come out — a lawn conversion shouldn't cost you a shade tree.
Turf, and where it doesn't belong
For dog runs and play areas we build artificial turf on a compacted, drained base — root zones get planned around, not dug through. Turf starts at $10 per square foot, and we only install PFAS-free products.
We don't install turf in HOA common areas, medians, or commercial frontage. Colorado's SB24-005 bars new artificial and nonfunctional turf in those settings from 2026. If your HOA's common areas need to change, see commercial & HOA landscaping.
