The questions every Denver homeowner asks us โ answered without the sales pitch. Deeper dives linked throughout.
How much does xeriscaping cost in Denver?+
Most full xeriscape projects land between $6โ10 per square foot depending on the design theme, materials, and site conditions โ boulders, hardscape, and access all move the number. Bohemian Woodland projects can start closer to $4โ8/sq ft. Every proposal we send breaks pricing down by scope so you can dial it to budget.
Full cost guide โWill I actually save water (and money)?+
Yes. A typical lawn-to-xeriscape conversion cuts outdoor water use dramatically โ often around 60% โ and outdoor watering is roughly half of a Denver home's summer usage. Once plants establish (1โ2 seasons), many of our landscapes need little to no supplemental water.
Are there rebates for removing my lawn?+
Often, yes. Denver Water and several Front Range municipalities run turf-replacement rebate programs that pay you per square foot of lawn converted to water-wise landscape. Programs change yearly โ we'll flag what your address qualifies for during the estimate.
Current rebate guide โWhen is the best time to xeriscape?+
Spring and fall are ideal planting windows in Colorado โ plants establish before heat or frost. But design, demo, and hardscape can happen almost year-round, and booking design in winter gets you to the front of the spring build line.
Timing guide โDoes xeriscape mean rocks and cactus everywhere?+
No โ that's 'zeroscaping,' and it's the look we exist to prevent. A real xeriscape is layered and alive: native flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, conifers, and stone placed like it grew there. Browse our Design Center to see eight very different looks.
Explore design themes โHow do I pick a design theme?+
Start with the two-minute quiz in our Design Center. It matches your yard's conditions and your taste to one of our eight themes โ from High Desert Steppe to Boulder Forest โ and we bring the matching plant and material palettes to your site visit.
Take the theme quiz โIs xeriscape safe for dogs?+
Very โ done right, it's better than turf for dogs. We design with durable ground covers, dog-run paths, non-toxic plant choices, and pet-friendly artificial turf where it makes sense.
Xeriscaping for dogs โWhat about artificial turf โ do you recommend it?+
In the right spots, yes: dog runs, putting greens, small high-traffic areas where real grass fails. We install PFAS-free turf and we're upfront about where turf is the wrong answer.
Our honest take on turf โWill my HOA approve a xeriscape?+
Colorado law (HB19-1050 and successors) protects water-wise landscaping โ HOAs can't ban xeriscape outright, though they can require design review. We prepare HOA-ready plans and have taken many projects through approval.
HOA landscaping guide โHow long does a project take?+
Typical residential conversions run 1โ3 weeks on site, depending on scope and hardscape. The real variable is the calendar โ spring slots fill fast, which is why estimates and design work best booked a season ahead.
How much maintenance will it need?+
Far less than a lawn โ no mowing, minimal watering once established โ but 'low-maintenance' isn't 'no-maintenance.' Expect seasonal cutbacks, occasional weeding, and mulch top-ups. We hand every client a seasonal care calendar at closeout.
Seasonal care calendar โWhere do you work?+
Denver metro and the Front Range โ Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Centennial, Englewood, and surrounding communities. Commercial and HOA properties too.
