Englewood runs its own water utility. City Council put mandatory watering restrictions in place on August 17, 2026: outdoor watering two days per week, only before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Odd-numbered addresses water Monday and Thursday; even-numbered addresses water Tuesday and Friday.
The important exception for landscaping: trees, shrubs, gardens, and other plants can be watered as needed with a hand-held hose or low-volume, non-spray irrigation like drip. A planted bed on drip isn't stuck on the two-day lawn schedule. Check the city's page for the current rules — they can change as conditions do.

Designing a small front yard
On a small lot, restraint wins. A tight plant palette repeated in drifts reads as intentional; thirty different plants in a small yard reads as a garden center. We use a clear edge between planting and path, one or two well-set boulders instead of a scatter of small rocks, and enough evergreen structure that the yard doesn't disappear in winter.
Tree lawns and street trees
Many Englewood streets have a planting strip between the sidewalk and curb, often under street trees. It's the hardest strip on the property to water efficiently with spray heads and one of the best places to convert. Keep the tree on drip through the change.
